Electrifying Education

Pupils have demonstrated progression in their scientific competencies this term, specifically through the application of observational techniques and the accurate recording of data.

Elementary Understanding - EYFS

The curriculum focus within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) has centered on cultivating the children's scientific curiosity and observational skills. This initiative is designed to underpin later learning by strengthening foundational skills in Understanding the World (UtW). Our practice has deliberately encouraged children to observe and comment on what they witness, fostering a dynamic and verbal engagement..

Materials and Methodologies - KS1

The Year 1 Science curriculum has recently focused on the statutory unit concerning Everyday Materials. This foundational study is designed to introduce pupils to core scientific methodologies through tangible, real-world examples. The primary objective has been to cultivate pupils’ abilities in observation, classification, and grouping, essential skills for subsequent scientific progression.

Lightbulb Moments - LKS2

The Year 4 Science curriculum has been strategically designed to build upon the foundational knowledge established in KS1 regarding the properties of everyday materials. This unit focuses on the transition from simple material identification to the functional application of materials within the context of electrical circuits. The primary objective is to advance pupils' knowledge of insulators and conductors of electricity in a controlled investigation, and using an evidence-based conclusion.

In Tune with the Force - UKS2

In Year 5 children have been focused on the topic of Forces and Magnets. They started the unit with an exploration lesson where they observed different forces in magnets in action (attraction and repulsion). They then recorded what they already knew about forces and wrote down questions they hoped to investigate throughout the unit. The picture focuses on making scientific predictions based on the shape of paper aeroplanes and observing and evaluating the outcomes.
