Pharaohs and Vikings
In the examples below, we are proud to show our learning in the area of Historical Significance.
Tiny to Tall - EYFS
In Nursery the children are learning about their history, as in how they have changed from being a baby, to toddler and to a child. They get to look at books including ones made up just of pictures of the class throughout the year. By looking at at these pictures, they can see how they have grown and changed and so revisit their own history.
Her-story in Woolwich - KS1
In Year 2’s topic of Wonderful Woolwich, we found out about the lives of female munitions workers in Woolwich working at the Royal Arsenal munitions factory. We ‘jumped into a picture’ and imagined being there at that time and what they might have seen, felt and heard. We discussed the significance of the vital role that these women played in our national and local history.
Pharaoh Face-Off - LKS2
In the Year 3 topic of The Ancient Egyptians, we researched the lives of four significant individuals: Hatshepsut, Tutankhamun, Cleopatra and Nefertiti. Using this information we created a Top Trumps set of cards with points based on their achievements and made a judgement on who was the most significant and why.
Vinland Saga - UKS2
In the Year 6 topic of Vicious Vikings, we researched the historical significance of King Canute. We found out that his reign over the kingdoms of England, Denmark and Norway at the same time, brought peace to a turbulent era. We created poems in the style of Norse Sagas and presented them orally to our classmates.
