Rhythms Syncing In
This term we have focused on whole class instrumental lessons and ensuring children can play instruments in time and accurately play the right notes. Time is built into the lessons for children to practice the skills of playing instruments and opportunities to perform in the class ensure that children experience performing. Children develop their music theory skills with the note names and their position on the clef as well as their technique by holding the instrument correctly or sitting in the correct position.
Outdoor Orchestra - EYFS
In Reception, the children enjoy choosing their own instruments in the outside music area as part of our continuous provision. They sing known songs and make up their own, developing a sense of pitch and rhythm both independently and in collaboration with others.
Recorders in the B,A,G - KS1
In Year 2, children have been learning to play the recorder. They have learnt how to hold the instrument correctly and how to play together as a class. Children have learnt the notes B, A and G and can now read these on the treble clef. They have been learning to read notes in crotchets to make sure they play in time.
Keeping in Time - LKS2
In Year 3, children have been learning to read the notes of the treble clef and how to play C, D, E and F on the keyboards. They have also learnt to use the correct fingers to play this. In addition, children have built on their knowledge of rhythm by reading bars in 4/4 and 3/4 times using crotchets, minims, dotted minims and semibreves.
Mini Piano Miestros - UKS2
In Year 5, children have enjoyed developing their skills on the keyboard, building on what was taught in Year 4. They have learned to read formal music notation on both the treble and bass clefs, playing with both the right and left hands and becoming confident in understanding both the pitch and duration of the notes they are reading.
