Ambitious Art

The photos show the exploration stage of an art unit. This is the beginning part of the learning journey, during which the children explore a theme or an artist by looking at pieces of art and analysing them through questioning. In EYFS, it is slightly different, so the focus is on the outcomes of different explorations throughout the year.

Self-Made Selfies - EYFS

In EYFS, the children have been making self-portraits. They looked at making their features realistic and proportional to their faces. The children used a range of colours to perfectly show what they look like. The children focused on techniques like blending and shading to give the features depth.

A Look at Van Gogh- KS1

In Year 1,  the children have been exploring the artist Van Gogh. The children looked at his style of using thick, short brush strokes to create movement. Then they discussed what they  liked and didn’t like about the paintings.

A Pinch of Clay - LKS2

In Year 4, the children explored the properties and techniques of modelling clay to prepare for designing a World War One memorial statue prototype. They made pinch pots to do this. After the clay had dried, the children assessed the prototype for potential improvements, specifically focusing on how to ensure the final memorial would be durable, resist crumbling, and accurately reflect their intended final outcome.

Young Justice - UKS2

In Year 6, the children explored the concept of justice and thought about what it actually means. Then the children picked a justice that was important to them personally and created a mood board to reflect this.
