Digital Media Literacy

These photos show how children are learning how to stay safe whilst using technology: considering screen time, exploring the potential risks and rewards, understanding about Artificial Intelligence, and spotting sponsored or commercial content online.

Turn-Taking Digitally - EYFS

In Reception, we use iPads to support both Digital Literacy and Social Development. By working in pairs, pupils are learning the importance of turn-taking and sharing a single device. This collaborative approach moves children away from passive screen time and towards active communication, helping them build essential patience and negotiation skills from the very start of their school journey.

Click with Trusted Adults - KS1

Year 1 pupils explored the balance between online fun and potential risks, focusing on "emotional literacy" to help them recognise when something doesn't feel right. By identifying trusted adults and learning clear action steps for when they feel unsafe, children are building the foundational confidence needed to navigate the internet securely and responsibly.

An Eye on AI - LKS2

For Safer Internet Day, Year 4 pupils explored Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it influences their digital experiences. By learning to distinguish between human and machine-generated content, the children developed vital media literacy skills, empowering them to make safer, more informed choices when using smart technology.

Digital Discernment - UKS2

Year 5 pupils have been developing critical thinking skills by identifying sponsored and 'boosted' content. By learning to spot the subtle clues used by influencers to promote products, the children are becoming more discerning consumers of digital media and understanding the commercial motivations behind the content they view.
