Both tasks share the theme "En Ville" (In the Town), focusing on navigating a local neighborhood and identifying key landmarks. They use a shared set of urban vocabulary such as  le café and le cinéma to practice the language of giving and asking for directions.

This Year 4 student is undertaking s a structured dialogue exercise that introduces basic French directions. It provides a clear visual word bank and set phrases, like Où est le café?, for the student to follow. This activity focuses on accuracy and repetition, helping the student get comfortable with asking for help and using simple terms like à gauche or à droite in a guided way.

Mapping Out French Skills - UKS2

This Year 5 student is undertaking a creative mapping activity where the student draws their own neighbourhood layout. By placing buildings like l'école and le restaurant around an intersection, they move from just following a model to applying the vocabulary independently. This shows a shift toward using the language to build an original scene, allowing them more open-ended conversation practice.
