As part of their topic ‘Ocean Explorers’, Year 2 took a trip to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Each class had the opportunity to explore the new ‘Ahoy There!’ Centre, where children can role-play as seafarers, go fishing in rock pools, load up containers on a cargo ship and shovel coal in the boiler room. We then visited the ‘Great Map’, and used tablet computers to find different locations from around the world. Finally, we had a look round the East Indian Trading Company gallery, learning about all the goods that were imported in from the Asia. It was a fantastic day, with children really enjoying themselves but also learning much.
