Classes 12 and 16 at Thamesmead have been trialling ‘The Daily Mile’ for the last three weeks. This involves running/walking/moving forwards for 15 minutes a day, which for most children works out at about a mile It started in Scotland and was found to have really beneficial outcomes on children’s learning and fitness. It is now a Royal Borough of Greenwich initiative, where they are hoping to get every school involved. At Heronsgate we are planning to extend the programme to more classes in the coming months. The children are already more attentive and less fidgety in class and are showing real improvements in their fitness!
