On Wednesday 14th June Heronsgate entered the first annual Thamesmead Spelling Bee, held at Discovery Primary School. A large audience turned up to support the children, including the mayor, Mr Peter Brooks. Our pupils worked very hard and did so well! In the Year 3 competition, Precious got through to the tie break round and in the end she was announced joint winner after several rounds with no resolution! In the Year 4 competition Jordin also got through to a tiebreak round against a pupil from St Margaret Clitheroe. After 5 rounds the winner was declared and Jordan came a close second after a very tricky word – hieroglyphics! In Year 5 and 6 Shayna and Tito both did brilliantly. The words were incredibly hard – Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Sonnenberg hadn’t even heard of one of them! All the girls met the mayor and were awarded with a medal for taking part. We are very proud of our super spellers!
