Year 3

Friday 24th April – Day 15

ENGLISH

LI: I am learning to write a fact file about Siamese Crocodiles.

Today you will need to use your research notes from last 2 days to help you fill in the fact file sheet about Siamese Crocodiles.

On the fact file sheet each section relates to one of the sections you researched all you need to do is put your notes into full sentences.

For example if the subheading is about where the animal lives your notes would look something like this:

Where they live:
Freshwater habitat – lakes, river, swamplands
South East Asia – Cambodia

So on your fact file sheet under the heading ‘Where do Siamese Crocodiles live? You would write up your notes from the section ‘where they live’ in full sentences.

For example
Siamese Crocodiles live in freshwater habitats such as lakes, rivers and swamplands. Siamese Crocodiles can be found in SouthEast Asia in countries such as Cambodia.

Use the sheet provided to write your fact file. This can be done using the tools section on Showbie or you can write it down on paper and then take a photo of it and upload it to Showbie.

MATHS

Complete the fluent in 5, Day 5 task. If you haven’t yet been able to complete the questions in 5 minutes yet this week, try and see if you can do it today but don’t worry if you don’t with more practice your fluency will get better.

Review your previous learning by using the answer sheet to self mark.

Today’s Maths will be a Mathletics investigation which your class teacher will have assigned to you. Remember there is space for you to do working out or you can do it on scrap paper if that is easier for you.

The question you’ll be assigned in mathletics is written below in case you have any problems with Mathletics.

It is called “Build the Number’

Question:
You are given the challenge of building the number 153 using place value blocks.
Unfortunately all the hundreds blocks have gone missing! You can only use tens(rods) and ones (units).

How many different ways can you build the number using the rods and units? Record your answers.

You can choose to drag the blocks into the table to find different ways of making 153 using tens and ones.

FRENCH

Bonjour! In class you learned about the colours and how to pronounce them. Go through the presentation to remind yourself about the colours in French and how to pronounce them. When you have finished looking through the presentation, go through the sheet and colour in the paint splats in the correct colours.

Challenge:
Can you teach the colours in French to someone you live with?

Thursday 23rd April – Day 14

ENGLISH

LI: I am learning to research information about Siamese Crocodiles.

Today you will continue your research on Siamese Crocodiles, you have found out some interesting facts so far, let’s see what other interesting facts you can find out today.

Re- Read the information on this link animalia.bio/siamese-crocodile and fill in part 2 of the research sheet.

Remember you only need to take notes, you do not need to copy out everything you have read, just key words or phrases.

For example if the subheading is about where the animal lives your notes would look something like this:

Where they live: Freshwater habitat – lakes, river, swamplands South East Asia – Cambodia

Look at the subheading on the link to help you fill in your research sheet.

Use the research sheet to write down your notes, this can be done using the tools section on Showbie or you can write it down on paper and then take a photo of it and upload it to Showbie.

MATHS

Review the learning you did yesterday and self mark by checking your answers using the sheet we have sent you.

Make sure you mark your Fluent in 5 task as well as your maths task. How did you do? Are you getting more accurate? Was there anything you found tricky?

Complete the fluent in 5 activity sheet first. There is space around the page if you need to do some working out. Try and see if you can complete all questions in 5 minutes.

You could do this by annotating the sheet in Showbie, or use a paper and pencil to complete it. If you can, take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

Li: I am learning to add by jumping in 10s and 1s

As we have been all week, we are continuing to practise our addition skills. To do this, today we are going to be jumping in 10s first and then the remaining 1s.

We have already looked at this method in class and you were all confident with this method.

For example: 32 + 25=

We start with the biggest number which is 32. Next we look at the second number which has 2 tens and 5 ones.

Then we do 2 jumps of 10 as there are 2 tens in 20.

32 + 10 + 10 = 52

Then we add the 5 ones:

52 + 1 + 1+ 1+ 1+ 1 = 57

So 32 + 25= 57

The second sheet we are looking at then helps us to make this a little quicker, so we would add all the 10s first and then all the 1s.

For example

32 + 25 =

32 + 20= 52

52 + 5 = 57

As usual, you can either annotate the sheet in Showbie or print it off and take a photo of it and upload it to Showbie or you can use a sheet of a paper and a pencil or a pen to complete it and then take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

SCIENCE

Li: I am learning how to categorise items into transparent, translucent and opaque.

Earlier this year we were learning about light. In this topic, we looked at how light travels through objects.

Look through the presentation and remind yourself about the 3 ways in which light goes through objects.

When you have finished going through the presentation, have a scavenger hunt in your house for items that are transparent, translucent or opaque and add them to the table below. How many objects can you find?

If you can’t find any objects in your house you may write some of the objects that you already know.

Wednesday 22nd April – Day 13

ENGLISH

LI: I am learning to research information about Siamese Crocodiles.

After reading about Siamese Crocodiles in the first news newspaper, it would be great to do a fact file about them so that we have a better understanding about what kind of crocodile they are.

You will be creating a fact file later in the week but before you can write a fact file, you need to do some research first.

Read the information on this link http://animalia.bio/siamese-crocodile and fill in part 1 of the research sheet.

Remember you only need to take notes: you do not need to copy out everything you have read, just key words or phrases.

For example if the subheading is about where the animal lives your notes would look something like this:

Where they live:
Freshwater habitat – lakes, river, swamplands

Use the research sheet to write down your notes, this can be done using the tools section on Showbie or you can write it down on paper and then take a photo of it and upload it to Showbie.

MATHS

Review the learning you did yesterday and self-mark by checking your answers using the sheet we have sent you. Make sure you mark your Fluent in 5 task as well as your maths task. How did you do? Are you getting more accurate?

Complete the fluent in 5 activity sheet first. There is space around the page if you need to do some working out. Try and see if you can complete all questions in 5 minutes.

You could do this by annotating the sheet in Showbie, or use a paper and pencil to complete it. If you can, take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

Li: I am learning to add by looking for doubles and near doubles.
For the next few days in maths we are practising our addition skills. To do this, today we are going to look for mental strategies that make it easier to add.

The method we are using today is bridging to 10. We have already done this in class and you were all superstars at it. Bridging to 10 is when we make the first number up to 10 and then add whatever is left. It is very important that you make the first number up to 10!

For example, 7 + 5 =
So first we must make 7 up to 10. To do this we need to add 3- we know this because 7+3= 10. We take that 3 away from 5, which leaves us 2. So now we can do 10 + 2 which is 12!

As usual, you can either annotate the sheet in Showbie or print it off and take a photo of it and upload it to Showbie or you can use a sheet of a paper and a pencil or a pen to complete it and then take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

PE

Joe Wicks has been making 30 minute workout videos for children to use. Go online and join in with today’s workout.

When you have finished, reflect on how you did

  • What part of the workout did you enjoy the most? Why?
  • What part of the workout did you find challenging? Why?

Tuesday 21st April – Day 12

MATHS

Review the learning you did yesterday and self mark by checking your answers using the sheet we have sent you. Make sure you mark your Fluent in 5 task as well as your maths task. How did you do? Are you getting more accurate?

Complete the fluent in 5 activity sheet first. There is space around the page if you need to do some working out. Try and see if you can complete all questions in 5 minutes.

You could do this by annotating the sheet in Showbie, or use a paper and pencil to complete it. If you can, take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

L.I.: I am learning to add by bridging the 10

For the next few days in maths we are practising our addition skills. To do this, today we are going to look for mental strategies that make it easier to add.

The method we are using today is looking for doubles and near doubles. For example 6 +6 = 12. If you know this, then you can use this to help you solve 6 + 7 by working out 6+ 6 =12 and then add 1 more = 13.

As usual, you can either annotate this in Showbie or print it off and take a photo of it and upload it to Showbie or you can use a sheet of a paper and a pencil or a pen to complete it and then take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

ENGLISH

For English today, re-read the newspaper with the different articles and answer questions 5b-10. We were impressed with your answers yesterday and saw that some of you were using the techniques we have learnt to help us find the answer, which is great.

Remember when answering comprehension questions you can underline the key words/parts of the question and use skim and scan to find the word/phrase you are looking for in the text and also remember to read the sentence before and after to help you understand the question and find your answer.

You can use the Showbie tools to write on the answer sheet – you can either type your answer using a text box or leave a voice not or you can write your answers on a piece of paper and then take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

CREATIVE CURRICULUM

PSHCE focus: Earlier this term we learned about what it means to be a healthy person. We discussed that being healthy means both being mentally ( how we feel) and physically ( what we look like) healthy. Create a poster about how to be a healthy person. You can create your poster either on an app or on a piece of paper and take a photo.

Before you create your poster think about

  • What does it mean to be healthy?
  • What does a healthy person look like?
  • What does positive thinking have to do with healthy bodies?
  • What activities does a healthy person enjoy?
  • Who might be around them to make them happy and healthy?

Monday 20th April – Day 11

ENGLISH

Today in English, you will be reading a newspaper with different articles on it. Make sure to read them carefully. After you have finished you need to answer the first 5 questions.

Remember when answering comprehension questions you can underline the key words/parts of the question and use skim and scan to find the word/phrase you are looking for in the text. Also remember to read the sentence before and after to help you understand the question and find your answer.

You can use the Showbie tools to write on the answer sheet – you can either type your answer using a text box or leave a voice note. If you can’t do this, you can write your answers on a piece of paper and then take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

For the next few days in maths we are practising our addition skills. To do this, today we are going to look for mental strategies that make it easier to add. This means we are going to be looking for ways to make 10. Once you have made 10, you can then add what is left. This makes it easier for us to add. You will then be adding 10s and 100s. Remember when adding in 10s, you change the digit in the tens column and when adding in 100s, you change the digit in the hundreds column.

As usual, you can either annotate this in Showbie or print it off and take a photo of it and upload it to Showbie or you can use a sheet of a paper and a pencil or a pen to complete it and then take a photo of this and upload it to Showbie.

CREATIVE CURRICULUM

History focus: Today you will be researching what the Stone Age people ate. Read the webpage below to find out what types of foods that they would have eaten. After you have read through the webpage, you will then need to use the information that you have found out to create a meal for a Stone Age person on the plate attached. Make sure that you label each food so that we know what you have included in your meal.

Challenge: Can you explain how Stone Age people got their food? E.g.The Stone Age people used to have to forage (gather) berries from the forest.
